This mural is a celebration of Beryl Warner Williams, the first black woman to graduate with a degree in Mathematics from the University of Maine. We wanted to pay homage her extraordinary life, accomplishments, and family. Rachel and I combined our stules with my illustrations and portraits of Beryl and her family members tied together with Rachel’s quilt-style designs. This was an honor beyond words, and we are thankful to the whole community that helped make this happen.
